Moving forward on Social Sciences and Humanities in Metsovo
from April 25, 2023 to April 26, 2023
Five of the seven members of the Alliance convened in Metsovo, Greece, to brainstorm and develop concrete projects on sustainable mobility from a social sciences perspective.
On April 25 and 26, 2023, five out of the eight universities within the alliance convened in Metsovo, Greece, in response to the invitation extended by the University of Ioannina. The shared objective was to develop concrete projects in the realms of education and research, with a focus on sustainable mobility from a social science perspective. One of the forthcoming projects that emerged from this meeting is the establishment of an interinstitutional PhD program in the field of mobility. The partners have also decided to implement a Blended Intensive Program (BIP) centered on mobilities.
During the roundtable on history and archaeology, the idea of modernizing the discipline through new technologies was explored. A workshop on the history of mobilities in ancient and medieval worlds was proposed for spring 2024. The prospect of a BIP or a summer school was discussed, with proposals for participation from colleagues at French and Greek universities.
Various initiatives were put forward, including projects on virtual mobility, the creation of postgraduate training programs for refugees/migrants, and collaborations on the role of arts and cultural heritage in social changes. Through these exchanges, each university expressed interest in interdisciplinary projects and teaching mobilities, with the aim of exploring the links between culture and economy at the regional level.
