UCA Clermont Auvergne University

Université Clermont Auvergne (UCA) is a multidisciplinary higher education institution located in Auvergne, a territory lying in the heart of the Massif Central that combines rural areas with a wide range of industries, from SMEs to international groups.

UCA was created on January, 1st 2017 from the merger of Université d’Auvergne – Clermont-Ferrand I and Université Blaise Pascal – Clermont-Ferrand II. The university is composed of 20 faculties, 5 doctoral schools and 40 research laboratories working in the fields of fundamental and engineering sciences, life and health sciences as well as law, human and social sciences.

UCA is committed in several laboratory of excellence, regional clusters and competitiveness centers and has been awarded (Feb 2017) an I-Site label, namely " Investments for the Future programme" which integrates engineering schools, industry and research laboratories in one of the 12 major research area in France ("CAP 2025" project). The university is involved in the implementation of the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. It received the label « HR excellence in Research » for having developed since November 2018 its own Human Resources Strategy for Researchers.

Université Clermont Auvergne is located in Auvergne, a territory lying in the heart of the Massif Central that combines rural areas with a wide range of industries, from SMEs to international groups. Auvergne is especially known worldwide as the headquarters of the international Michelin tire-manufacturing Group. 15% of the territory is dedicated to nature reserves. Auvergne counts more than 1.3 million people, 70% of whom are living in urban areas. The remaining 30% is living in sparsely rural, agricultural and mountain areas. Auvergne is part of the 2nd economic region of France: “Region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes”.

UCA is working closely with the local authorities and socio-economic actors to identify and develop strategies on common issues in order to strengthen its position and the position of the Auvergne territory as one of the unavoidable interdisciplinary research and training academic area of the Region.
