Establishing a common framework for ARTEMIS research collaboration
ARTEMIS has achieved its Research Centres Set‑Up Framework defines the common structure, governance principles, and operational foundations for the three ARTEMIS Research Centres, which anchor the Alliance’s thematic pillars: Technology & Transport, Health & Environment, and Migration & Human Rights.
This framework provides a shared institutional reference for strengthening research collaboration across ARTEMIS partner universities. It clarifies how research activities are structured, coordinated, and governed at alliance level, while respecting institutional autonomy and national regulations. The framework is conceived as a living document, designed to evolve as the Research Centres are progressively implemented and consolidated.
The document establishes a multi‑level research governance model connecting:
- Research Beacon Groups, which provide strategic and scientific guidance at pillar level;
- ARTEMIS Research Centres, which act as coordination hubs for joint research activities;
- Research Leagues, which function as flexible communities of practice bringing together researchers and practitioners around shared themes.
The framework outlines the objectives of the Research Centres, including the development of joint research agendas, the promotion of interdisciplinary and cross institutional collaboration, alignment with European research and policy priorities, and the enhancement of research impact through transparent governance and ethical standards.
By providing a coherent and inclusive framework for the creation of ARTEMIS Research Centres, it lays the groundwork for sustainable, high-quality research collaboration across regions, disciplines, and institutions. It reinforces the role of ARTEMIS as a European University Alliance where research excellence, societal relevance, and regional engagement are jointly advanced.
